Works in the What I Want series use an optical mixture of colours from past seasons' fashion reports to generate a colour in a subsequent season's fashion report. The difference between each pixel's colour and the closest option in a limited palette is registered as the quantity of error. The error is passed from the current pixel on to its neighbouring pixels to be dealt with later.
